Charlottesville and Albemarle County were recently named by Food & Wine magazine as one of America’s top dining destinations. This is due, in part, to the large number of local restaurants offering farm-to-table menus, sourcing fresh, local produce from nearby farms and growers. Old Town Charlottesville is home to one of the nation’s oldest farmers’ markets, held every Saturday from April through November, with more than 100 booths selling fruits and vegetables, cheeses, breads and cakes, meats and fish, and more.
The Charlottesville area is also home to more than 40 wineries along the Monticello Wine Trail, with new wineries opening every year. These wineries have a long history of receiving regional, national and international awards, making the area one of the top wine destinations on the East Coast. In addition, the Charlottesville area is home to a number of craft breweries, cider mills and distilleries, all of which can be found in the many cocktail bars in Albemarle County and the greater Capital Region.
